On Fire for Chemnitz

On Fire for Chemnitz
Zur Geschichte der Chemnitzer Feuerwehr

The year 2026 marks a double anniversary in the history of the Chemnitz Fire Brigade. In October 1866, the first “night fire watch” was established, consisting of twelve permanently employed and salaried firefighters. This marked the beginning of the professional fire brigade in Chemnitz. The old fire station at Neumarkt soon no longer met the demands of a growing city. In December 1906, the new central fire station on Schadestraße was officially opened.

Through numerous historical documents, photographs, pieces of equipment, and models, the special exhibition on the city’s history offers insight into the rich and fascinating history of the Chemnitz Fire Brigade.
