On August 15th, the Schloßbergmuseum transformed for one evening into a place full of contemporary art, music, and encounters. On a mild summer night, a young audience, dance, and poetry came together in the heart of Chemnitz’s city history, turning the museum into a colorful and vibrant party location as part of the Junge Kunstnacht (Young Art Night).
The Schloßbergmuseum provided the perfect backdrop: housed in one of Saxony’s most beautiful and best-preserved monastery complexes, its history dates back to 1136, when Emperor Lothar had a Benedictine monastery built here. This time, however, the courtyard was filled not with spiritual contemplation but with fresh summer beats.
The evening centered around the special exhibition “Architectural Agonies in Light and Shadow” by photographer Christian Sünderwald, who personally guided visitors through it. At the same time, the pop-up exhibition LOST IN C opened in the Lapidarium, presenting the results of an open call in which young people were invited to capture their very own view of the city. Amid historical statues and the fresh works of the young participants, a special atmosphere emerged there, beautifully illuminated. A small highlight: one visitor spontaneously used the evening to create her own artwork on site.
The evening was rounded off with a three-part poetry slam by the Spektakel Kollektiv, live music by THE MODERNA, and dancing in the courtyard until midnight with DJane EMMY.
Many thanks to everyone involved for a wonderful evening.

The pop-up exhibition LOST IN C can still be seen until September 20th in the Lapidarium of the Schloßbergmuseum. Everyone is warmly invited to discover the perspectives of young Chemnitz residents on their city!
