There has to date been no one place in the inner city of Chemnitz where such topics as democratic education, networking and participation might be debated. In this connection, the Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz now want to act as administrator of the Chemnitz Open Space in order to bring together the different people involved in art and culture and thereby create that social space in Chemnitz. By involving the greatest diversity of players and taking the form of varying mediating formats, the space does not only promote democratic education, but also facilitates networking and participation in the city.
The Chemnitz Open Space is the framework, or container, in which initiatives and societies may implement their own democratic and cultural projects in the inner city of Chemnitz, projects which so far have not been granted sufficient visibility and publicity. The intention is to be a space for everyone that promotes greater diversity.
