Contemporary Paintings and Works on Paper from the Ostdeutsche Sparkassenstiftung Collection
The Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz present the new wide-ranging loan received from the Ostdeutsche Sparkassenstiftung (East German Savings Bank Foundation) in collaboration with the Sparkasse Chemnitz: More than 100 works on paper and four paintings demonstrate
the impressive diversity of artistic means of expression used by 64 artists born or living in Saxony. The exhibition draws attention particularly to the impressive range of graphic techniques employed in the region including etching, lithography, collage, woodcut, embossing, and silkscreen printing. The curatorial hallmark of Professor Werner Schmidt (1930–2010), the long-standing director of the Dresden Kupferstich-Kabinett (Gallery of Prints) and the Director General of the Staatlichen Kunstsammlungen Dresden, is apparent in the selection on loan.
