Bauhaus
Textile and Graphic Arts
In view of its excellent collections, the Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz are able to offer a thoroughly individual and noteworthy overview for the »100 Years of the Bauhaus« anniversary. The emphasis of this exhibition is on textiles made in the Bauhaus weaving workshop from 1919 to 1933. Weaving was the domain of women and was one of the most successful of the Bauhaus ateliers, both in Weimar and in Dessau. This focus brings into view the neglected contribution of women in the largely male-dominated Bauhaus. Presented are textile works by artists such as Marianne Brandt, Benita Koch-Otte, Otti Berger, and Gertrud Arndt. The second emphasis of the exhibition is on graphics and photographs by artists from – or associated with – the Bauhaus Weimar, such as Lyonel Feininger and Joost Schmidt, as well as Max Pechstein and Kurt Schwitters.
