Post-war period to the presen
The Kunstsammlungen am Theaterplatz are showing a broad spectrum of artistic tendencies from their own holdings with the new collection presentation Post-War to Contemporary. The period between 1945 and today was characterised by political and social upheavals, which are also reflected in art. On display are paintings, sculptures, works on paper and textile art, primarily from the GDR and the FRG, which provide an insight into artistic developments in both German states. Above all, the exhibition emphasises the similarities between the artistic approaches and styles, because despite the stipulations of Socialist Realism, numerous artists in the GDR pursued their own artistic paths that went against the state guidelines. The works of these artists, including Hermann Glöckner, Carlfriedrich Claus, Willy Wolff, Inge Götze, Eberhard Göschel, Núria Quevedo and Michael Morgner, show a variety of modes of expression as well as parallels to the works of their contemporaries from the West, such as Imi Knoebel, Karl Fred Dahmen, Georg Baselitz, Ilse Garnier and Jörg Immendorff.
