Volker Beier. Sculptor

Volker Beier (born 1943) is one of the most productive and original sculptors in Chemnitz. A thematic focus in his work addresses the history of his hometown. Beier portrays significant figures from the past of the city – Georgius Agricola, Hans Carl von Carlowitz – as well as people who made their mark on contemporary events, such as the weightlifter Gerd Bonk and the journalist Addi Jakobi. Beier’s sculptures make their mark throughout the Chemnitz cityscape and have become known to an international audience through a variety of exhibitions. The Schloßbergmuseum presents the artwork of the sculptor Volker Beier in an exposition designed mainly as a retrospective, thus paying tribute to his practice.
