The „Sailing ship“ of Caspar David Friedrich is on voyage

On the occasion of the 250th anniversary of Caspar David Friedrich’s birth, numerous exhibitions about the great painter of German Romanticism will take place in the years 2023 – 2025. With his breathtaking atmospheric landscapes and his unusual pictorial inventions, he significantly influenced the genre of landscape painting on the threshold of modernity. Numerous new art historical research projects will bring his work to view and discussion in new ways. The “Sailing Ship” in the Chemnitz Art Collections is also one of the artist’s outstanding works. Like many of his paintings, it has become a famous icon. Although it will be missing from our museum’s collection presentation, we are pleased to announce that the painting will be on view in Winterthur (CH) in the coming months. Namely in the exhibition: Caspar David Friedrich and the harbingers of romance, Reinhart am Stadtgarten, 26. August. – 19.November 2023.
